Petrospec Electric Heating Production Enhancement Reservoir (PEHPER) Simulator

PEHPER is simulation software created by Petrospec Engineering, which models electric heating applications in horizontal wells.  PEHPER allows for a variety of sensitivities to evaluate the technical and economic benefits of electric wellbore heating.

Analysis

1. Cold Flow:

• Model Cold Flow: Determine basic wellbore and reservoir parameters of horizontal wells
• Calculate Pressure Profile: Drawdown distribution in horizontal section / determine Productivity Index (PI) profile of the well

2. Effect of Electric Heating in Wellbore:

• Reduce oil viscosity
• Reduce cumulative friction losses in the tubulars
• Increased drawdown across the horizontal section but especially at the toe
• Increased toe contribution

3. Near Wellbore heating:

• Establishes the heat penetration radius depending on the thermal conductivity of the formation, well flow parameters and;
• Reduce viscosity in the heat affected area in the formation
